The commissioner commended residents for the level of compliance recorded during the April edition of the sanitation exercise, describing the turnout as encouraging and a sign of growing public commitment to environmental sustainability in the state.
According to him, environmental cleanliness remains vital to public health, flood prevention, and sustainable urban development, stressing that the state government is determined to institutionalise a culture of cleanliness across Lagos.
He explained that the monthly sanitation programme has now become a permanent exercise in the state and urged residents to sustain and improve on the level of participation recorded in previous editions.
Wahab disclosed that the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, would lead a team of government officials to monitor compliance in Alimosho Local Government Area, while the Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, would supervise monitoring activities in Apapa Local Government Area.

The commissioner further revealed that the government had deployed compactor trucks across various parts of the state to ensure the seamless evacuation of waste generated during and after the sanitation exercise.
He added that officials across the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, would participate in monitoring and enforcement activities aimed at ensuring total compliance.
Wahab also urged residents to embrace proper waste disposal habits and avoid practices capable of endangering public health and the environment.
He warned against the patronage of illegal cart pushers for refuse disposal, noting that the operations of Private Sector Participation, PSP, operators had been expanded to cover more communities across the state.
The commissioner stated that residents who fail to clean their surroundings during the sanitation exercise risk receiving abatement notices and possible prosecution in line with environmental laws of the state.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to maintaining a clean, healthy, and flood-free environment and advised residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels and unauthorised locations.
