EKO HOT BLOG reports that currency traders at the black market, also known as the parallel market, exchanged the United States Dollar at an average buying rate of ₦1,375 and a selling rate of ₦1,385. Exchange rates may vary slightly depending on location, volume of transaction, and dealer margins.
Meanwhile, data from the official Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) foreign exchange window showed that the naira traded within a range of ₦1,360 to ₦1,373 per dollar.
| Dollar to Naira (USD/NGN) | Rate |
|---|---|
| Black Market Buying Rate | ₦1,375 |
| Black Market Selling Rate | ₦1,385 |
| CBN Highest Rate | ₦1,373 |
| CBN Lowest Rate | ₦1,360 |
The difference between the official and parallel market rates continues to reflect demand and supply dynamics in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market. While the CBN has implemented several measures aimed at improving liquidity and stabilising the naira, many businesses and individuals still rely on the parallel market to meet their foreign currency needs.
Financial analysts have advised Nigerians involved in foreign exchange transactions to monitor market trends closely, as rates can fluctuate throughout the trading day based on economic developments and market conditions.

As always, exchange rates quoted in the black market are unofficial and may differ from rates obtainable at banks, bureaux de change, and other authorised foreign exchange dealers.
