The management of Ebonyi State University has expelled three students who were allegedly found with firearms during the recently concluded Students Union Government election.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Awoke, announced the decision over the weekend during the inauguration of the new SUG executives at the university’s main campus in Abakaliki, according to Channels TV.

In September, the Ebonyi State Police Command arrested three suspects accused of attempting to disrupt the announcement of the SUG election results. The suspects reportedly fired gunshots to disperse the crowd, and one student was hit during the chaos.

Awoke described the act as criminal and intolerable, saying the university would no longer condone violence, cultism, or intimidation of any kind. He said the expulsion was necessary to send a clear message that such behaviour had no place in the institution.
“This issue of cultism is banned in Ebonyi State University as long as I remain the Vice Chancellor,” Awoke said. “The use of guns to intimidate lecturers or students must stop immediately. Those involved have been expelled with effect from today.”
According to the management, the expelled students were caught with guns and live ammunition during the election and allegedly tried to attack the Dean of Student Affairs. Awoke said the case was already before a competent court, adding that justice would be served.

He stated that the university would not allow any student to use weapons to threaten others, noting that the punishment would serve as a warning to others.
Awoke reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace and discipline, stressing that Ebonyi State University must remain a place of learning and integrity.
