Education Minister, Dr. Tunji Alausa Unveils Top Priorities for Education Sector

- Alausa explained that the purpose of his tour was to gain firsthand experience of the current state of affairs in the institutions and to identify specific areas where government support is needed.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, has emphasized key areas of focus within the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the country’s educational sector, Eko Hot Blog reports.
During a visit to Yabatech, the minister made these remarks during a familiarization tour across various educational institutions in the nation.

Alausa explained that the purpose of his tour was to gain firsthand experience of the current state of affairs in the institutions and to identify specific areas where government support is needed.
He further discussed several initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Education to improve the quality of education in Nigeria, including:
1. TVET
The Minister noted that the front runner initiative involves expansion of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs to aggressively address the skills gap and promote youth employment.
2. STEM with two M’s
The Minister mentioned that Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences are also priority of the Tinubu led Administration.
3. Reducing Out-of-school children
The rise in out-of-school Children are major issues affecting the edducatinal sector across the country . He stated that Nigeria has one of the highest out-of-school Children percentage
4. Girl Child Education
According to World Bank ‘Every day, girls face barriers to education caused by poverty, cultural norms and practices, poor infrastructure, violence and fragility’. Dr Alausa highlighted improvement in girl child Education as high priority areas of the government.
5. Data Digitization
Alausa maintainer that the crucial role that data plays in the planning and development of the educational sector.
He stated that data is essential for effective decision-making, intervention, and monitoring of outcomes within the education system
6. Quality Assurance
The Minister stressed the urgent need to implement rigorous quality assurance measures throughout Nigeria’s education system.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the education provided to children meets high standards, and that the educators responsible for delivering this education are also held accountable for their performance.
Alausa also highlighted the necessity of closely monitoring the outcomes of the education system to ensure that the government’s efforts are having a positive impact on the lives of Nigerian citizens.
He argued that these quality assurance measures must be pursued aggressively and continuously to guarantee that the education sector is meeting its obligations to the nation.
Dr. Tunji Alausa commended the management of Yaba College of Technology for maintaining high-quality infrastructure and providing excellent education.
He noted that Yabatech is fulfilling its mission and goals, and lauded the school’s dedication to digital technology integration.
