EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President joined family, friends and associates in celebrating the retired Vice Admiral, describing his career as one defined by discipline, professionalism and dedicated service.
Gambo, who served as the 21st indigenous Chief of Naval Staff between 2021 and 2023, was praised for his leadership during a critical period in Nigeria’s maritime security operations. President Tinubu noted that his tenure coincided with renewed efforts to tackle piracy and strengthen naval capabilities.
The President highlighted the progress recorded by the Nigerian Navy under Gambo’s leadership, particularly Nigeria’s removal from the piracy prone nations list of the International Maritime Bureau in 2022. He described the development as a major milestone that improved Nigeria’s global maritime reputation.
Tinubu said the retired naval chief demonstrated patriotism and courage throughout his service, adding that his commitment to duty remains a model for personnel across the armed forces.
During his more than three decades in the military, Gambo, an underwater warfare specialist, held several strategic roles across key naval formations and institutions. He served aboard vessels including NNS Ambe, NNS Damisa and NNS Ayam, and represented Nigeria internationally as Defence Attaché in Luanda, Angola.
He also served as Naval Assistant to the Chief of Naval Staff, Deputy Director and Acting Director of Defence Affairs at the Office of the National Security Adviser, Director of Research and Rescue at Defence Headquarters, and Director of Procurement at the Defence Space Administration.

President Tinubu prayed that Almighty Allah grants Gambo good health, strength and many more years of fulfilment in continued service to national development.
