Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN, has confirmed that he received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and says he is prepared to honour it.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Malami, who served as Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed the development on his official social media page. He noted that he remains committed to due process and transparency as the matter progresses.
During his time in office, Malami played central roles in major legal matters involving asset recovery, anti corruption reforms and high profile government decisions that often drew national attention. He also supervised cases involving financial crimes, arbitration disputes and broader governance reforms.
In recent years, he has faced public scrutiny over issues such as asset declarations and fund management, allegations he has repeatedly denied. The EFCC has not yet disclosed the details of its invitation or the specific issues under investigation.
Malami said he would continue to update the public as events unfold. In his statement, he wrote that he has been invited by the EFCC and will honour the invitation as a law abiding citizen.
