Ortiz secured her senatorial mandate following a triumphant campaign during Colombia’s national legislative elections.
Running under the banner of the ruling leftist Historic Pact (Pacto Histórico) coalition, the political alliance led by President Gustavo Petro, Ortiz occupied the 23rd position on the coalition’s closed senatorial list.
The Historic Pact emerged as the single largest political force in the National Congress, capturing 22.72 percent of the national Senate vote, which translated into more than 4.4 million ballots and 25 seats in the upper legislative chamber.
Through her four-year legislative term spanning 2026 to 2030, Senator Ortiz will officially represent the Norte de Santander department, a vital border region anchored by her hometown city of Cúcuta.
