“Over the coming months, we’ll be upgrading more mobile users from Google Assistant to Gemini. By the end of the year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads,” the company stated.
Google envisions its AI assistant as deeply personalized, context-aware, and seamlessly integrated with existing apps and services.
“An assistant should be personal to you, aware of the world around you, and capable of interacting with the apps and services you already use. It should enhance productivity, spark creativity, and encourage curiosity,” the company added.

As part of this transition, Google also plans to introduce Gemini-powered experiences for home devices, including smart speakers, displays, and TVs. However, Google Assistant will remain operational on these devices for now.
“We’re bringing a new experience, powered by Gemini, to home devices like speakers, displays, and TVs. More details will be shared in the coming months. Until then, Google Assistant will continue to function on these devices,” Google confirmed.
