Presiding over the case, Judge Malam Kabir Muhammad asked Haruna to present witnesses. His brother, Abubakar Haruna, testified that Kurma had been saving money with the defendant in small amounts, ranging between N2,000 and N5,000. When he later calculated his total savings, he arrived at N175,000.
However, Bilkisu only acknowledged receiving N80,000, leading to a dispute that was initially taken to a Shari’a court in Rigasa. In that case, she presented N80,000 as the amount she remembered, but Kurma refused to accept it, insisting it was incomplete.
