The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Epe and District Society, has ushered in a new era of leadership with the inauguration of Dr. Adesanya Augustine Adekoya (JP), MBA, Ph.D, FCTI, FCA, as the sixth Chairman of the district.
The investiture ceremony, held at Jubilee Chalet in Epe, attracted accounting professionals, traditional rulers, dignitaries, and members of the institute who gathered to witness the formal inauguration of the new Executive Committee.
Currently serving as the Head of Administration and Council Manager of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Dr. Adekoya assumed office with a commitment to building on the achievements of his predecessors while introducing innovative initiatives to strengthen the district.
In his inaugural address, the newly sworn-in chairman expressed appreciation to God and members of the institute for the confidence reposed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by the trust you have placed in me. This is not just a privilege but a call to greater service, and I am committed to leading with integrity, accountability, and transparency,” he said.
Dr. Adekoya paid glowing tribute to the district’s past chairmen, including High Chief Charles O. Keshinro, Pastor Stephen A. Otushemade, Mrs. Helen Deile, Mrs. Olayemi Ajiboye, and the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Maruf Oludare Tijani, for laying a strong foundation for the society.
“Our past leaders built this district on enduring values, and my administration will preserve that legacy while pursuing new opportunities for growth and professional excellence,” he added.
Outlining his administration’s priorities, the new chairman pledged to expand the Catch Them Young Initiative, strengthen the Educational Endowment Fund, boost contributions to the Building Endowment Fund, improve members’ welfare, enhance continuous professional development, and deepen the district’s corporate social responsibility programmes.
He also promised to strengthen the operations of the district secretariat and organise impactful programmes that would elevate the profile of ICAN within Epe Division and beyond.
“With the support of our members, sponsors, and stakeholders, I am confident we will take this district to greater heights of innovation, excellence, and service,” Dr. Adekoya stated.
The event also featured the valedictory remarks of the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Maruf Oludare Tijani, who highlighted key achievements recorded during his tenure.
According to him, his administration secured a befitting district secretariat, launched the official ICAN Epe and District Society website, employed dedicated secretariat personnel, installed a solar inverter system, increased members’ participation at the Annual Accountants’ Conference, and established a Building Fund for the construction of a permanent secretariat.
“One of our greatest challenges was inadequate funding. I urge corporate organisations, philanthropists, professional colleagues, and stakeholders to support the new executive so it can successfully deliver on its vision,” Tijani appealed.
The ceremony was graced by notable traditional rulers, including the Grand Patron of the district, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, HRM Oba Dr. Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo (Telade IV), and the Oloni of Oni Kingdom, Ogun State, HRM Oba Abidakun Olalekan Obikoya, underscoring the strong partnership between traditional institutions and the accounting profession.
Members of the society expressed optimism that Dr. Adekoya’s wealth of experience as an accountant, auditor, tax administrator, public administrator, data analyst, and lecturer would drive the district to greater accomplishments.
The inauguration marks a renewed commitment by the ICAN Epe and District Society to uphold professionalism, ethical leadership, and institutional development while consolidating past achievements for sustainable growth.
