Spain defender Marc Cucurella has revealed he will retire from international football and tattoo the face of head coach Luis de la Fuente on his bicep if La Roja defeat Argentina in Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Real Madrid defender made the surprising pledge ahead of the final, saying there would be little left for him to achieve with the national team if Spain added the World Cup title to their European Championship triumph.
“If we win the World Cup, I’ll call Luis the next day and tell him not to count on me anymore, that I’m retiring from the national team,” Cucurella said.
“With a European Championship and a World Cup, I can’t do any better.
“I would get a little tattoo of Spain manager Luis de la Fuente’s face on my bicep if we were to win the World Cup.”
Cucurella’s latest promise continues a pattern of bold vows made before major tournaments.
Ahead of UEFA Euro 2024, the defender promised to dye his hair red if Spain won the tournament. After La Roja lifted the trophy, he fulfilled the pledge by changing his hairstyle.
Despite his willingness to make unusual promises, the Spain international has previously made it clear that there is one tattoo he would never consider.
“I prefer being bald to having a tattoo of the Barcelona badge,” he once said.
Spain head into Sunday’s World Cup final in outstanding form after overcoming Portugal, France and Belgium on their route to the tournament’s showpiece match.
Luis de la Fuente’s side will now face defending champions Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, in a highly anticipated final that will determine the 2026 FIFA World Cup winners.
