He stressed that safeguarding lives and property should not be seen as the exclusive responsibility of the police, but as a collective duty shared by all citizens.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Is’haq Oloyede; the association’s President, Dr. Abdulmumini Alao; Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Dr. Ridwan Jamiu; and the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur.
In a statement issued after the lecture, Obasa maintained that insecurity in Nigeria is fundamentally linked to widespread poverty.
“Security is not about the police alone; it is about all of us. It is a collective spiritual duty,” he said. “Insecurity is a function of poverty.”

He described security beyond physical protection, arguing that reducing poverty is essential to achieving lasting peace and stability.
The Speaker also urged political officeholders to prioritise transparency, fairness, and service to humanity in governance. He called on public officials and well-to-do Nigerians to extend support to the less privileged, noting that compassion and community engagement are critical to building a safer society.
According to him, meaningful contributions at both community and family levels, such as supporting the vulnerable and addressing social need are vital steps toward reducing insecurity and fostering national development.
