Iran claimed on Monday that its forces launched a missile attack against a US Navy frigate operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
Eko Hot Blog reports that according to a report by the Fars news agency, the vessel was targeted near the port of Jask for allegedly violating maritime safety rules and ignoring warnings from the Iranian navy.

The report further alleged that the frigate was forced to turn back and flee the area after being hit.
However, the United States military has officially denied that any such attack took place.
US Central Command issued a statement clarifying that no vessels in its fleet had been struck.
The conflicting reports follow a significant policy shift by President Donald Trump, who stated that US forces would begin escorting commercial vessels through the strategic strait starting Monday.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global oil, gas, and fertilizer transport, has been largely blockaded by Iran since the regional conflict began on February 28.
In retaliation, the United States has enforced its own blockade on Iranian ports since mid-April.
While Iran’s military has repeatedly warned that it will attack any US forces approaching the waterway, the US military maintains that its operations to restore navigation in the region are ongoing.
