Speaking at the launch, the agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Are, said the programme reflects the government’s effort to improve access to affordable healthcare and support residents’ wellbeing.

He explained that the enrolment exercise took place simultaneously across different centres in Lagos Central, Lagos East, and Lagos West over the weekend, ensuring broad participation.
According to him, the agency covered the full cost of the one year insurance for all beneficiaries, describing the effort as a major step toward expanding healthcare access.
Are also expressed hope that the initiative would be sustained and possibly expanded in the future based on its impact.
Also addressing participants, the Permanent Secretary of LASHMA, Emmanuella Zamba, outlined the benefits of the scheme, noting that it provides access to a range of medical services at approved health facilities across the state.
She encouraged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the coverage and assured them of quality care.
Government officials present at the event commended the programme, describing it as a people focused intervention that aligns with efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Lagos.

In addition to enrolment, participants received free medical checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, highlighting the preventive aspect of the initiative.
The programme is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to promote universal health coverage through the ILERA EKO scheme, which aims to reduce the cost burden of healthcare and improve access to services for residents.
