The Saint Petersburg meeting comes as the global economy reels from Iran’s continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
By cutting off a primary artery for oil and gas, Tehran has sent energy prices soaring, a situation that has placed immense domestic pressure on President Trump ahead of the upcoming US midterm elections.

While reports suggest Iran has sent “written messages” through Pakistani mediators outlining “red lines” regarding nuclear issues and the Strait, formal negotiations remain non-existent.
In a recent interview, President Trump appeared unbothered by the cancellation of his envoys’ trip to Islamabad, suggesting that the ball is in Tehran’s court.
