Kaduna Court Orders 15 Strokes of Cane for Driver Who Assaulted Police Officer

- Driver Mustapha Aminu pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer with a log of wood.
- Kaduna court sentenced him to 15 strokes of the cane as punishment for the attack.
- Magistrate warned him against further misconduct and urged him to be a responsible citizen.
A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 36-year-old driver, Mustapha Aminu, to 15 strokes of the cane for assaulting a police officer on duty.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Aminu, a resident of Ungwan Sanusi, Kaduna, was convicted after pleading guilty to striking Sergeant Adamu Maigari on the head with a log of wood.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, while delivering the ruling, emphasized that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.
“This is to ensure the convict understands the severity of his actions. I hereby direct a court official to administer 15 strokes of the cane,” Emmanuel stated.
He further cautioned Aminu against such behavior, urging him to focus on his job and contribute positively to society.
Prosecutor Inspector Chidi Leo told the court that the incident occurred on January 29 at around 2 p.m.

Leo explained that Aminu had been driving recklessly, and when the officer stopped him, he reacted violently by hitting him with a log of wood.
The offence contravenes Section 237 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
