Speaking during a livelihood support and counseling workshop on Thursday, the Director General of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Malam Abu-Ammar, explained that economic hardship has prevented many widows, orphans, and other disadvantaged individuals from getting married, despite their willingness to do so.

He noted that the programme will involve 2,000 participants, 1,000 brides and 1,000 grooms, selected across the state.
According to him, the mass wedding is designed to ease social pressures and reduce issues linked to poverty and instability by helping individuals build stable family lives.
While the government has not revealed the total cost of the event, officials stated that the initiative will include empowerment support for brides, along with welfare packages for grooms to help them start their married lives.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, A’isha Malumfashi, said all selected couples have undergone medical examinations and screening to confirm their health status and compatibility before being approved.

Represented by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Aminatu Mashi, she added that the mass wedding is scheduled to take place on April 25, 2026.
The training programme was organized by a marital support foundation in collaboration with the Hisbah Board and the State Ministry of Women’s Affairs, aimed at preparing the couples for married life.
