Kunle Kuti, son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has reacted to the recent online clash involving singer Wizkid and his younger brother, Seun Kuti, describing the situation as painful and unnecessary.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the disagreement followed Seun Kuti’s criticism of Wizkid’s fans for likening the Grammy-winning artiste to Fela, a comparison he said diminishes their father’s legacy.

Speaking on TheCable’s Our Two Kobo podcast, Kunle Kuti made it clear that such comparisons should be avoided, stressing that Wizkid and Fela operate in entirely different artistic spaces.

“I don’t want anybody to compare them. They are two different things,” he said.
Kunle admitted that the controversy deeply affected him, noting that he has great respect for Wizkid and has long hoped to meet the singer.
According to him, his admiration grew after noticing Wizkid’s tattoo of Fela Kuti, describing it as a powerful sign of respect.
“I was heartbroken when I saw everything going on. Wizkid is actually the only artiste I’ve ever asked to meet. I’ve told people several times that I want to meet him,” Kunle said.

He added that Wizkid’s tribute means a lot to the Kuti family, pointing out that even Fela’s own children do not carry tattoos of their late father.
The elder Kuti brother appealed for calm, urging fans and artistes alike to respect legacies without turning admiration into controversy.
