Youths in the Eruku community, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, staged a major protest on Wednesday following a late night attack by armed bandits. The demonstrators blocked the Ilorin–Kabba highway at the town’s entrance, causing significant traffic disruption as they demanded urgent security intervention.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community on Tuesday night and operated for nearly an hour without any response from security operatives stationed in the area. The incident left two people dead and several others feared abducted, while a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, was also attacked.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a youth leader, Peter Adesiyan, criticised the police for what he described as a failure to defend the community despite the support residents had given in building infrastructure for the local division. He said the silence of officers during the attack had deepened public frustration and fear.
Witnesses told journalists that the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, forcing many residents to flee. One resident told Channels Television that the community remained in shock. Another elder appealed for urgent federal assistance, saying the series of attacks on border communities in Kwara State had become unbearable.
The latest incident adds to a worrying trend of insecurity across the state. Reports indicate that Eruku and surrounding towns have experienced repeated bandit incursions in recent weeks.

Amid rising concerns, the Kwara State Government has called for the deployment of more security operatives to protect border communities. President Bola Tinubu also postponed his scheduled trips to South Africa and Angola in response to the killings and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State earlier in the week.
