EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Government has provided nutritional packages and other resources to pregnant women in Epe Local Council, in collaboration with Alaro City.
This was done under the Mother, Infant, and Child Initiative’s auspices (MICHD). The scheme, which was launched by the Lagos State government’s Office of Civic Engagement, aims to empower 5,000 pregnant women across the state’s 20 local councils and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).
The program is a key component of Governor Babajide Sanwo-womb Olu’s school initiative, a social investment basket launched by his administration to facilitate the development of human capital and raise socially responsible citizens from conception to adulthood.
One of the goals of the program, according to Aderemi Adebowale, Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, is to address the cognitive and learning disabilities that may occur in newborns if they are not properly nourished.
She emphasized the importance of having a well-rounded nutrition plan, especially before, during, and after pregnancy, as well as while breastfeeding.
Also, according to Dr Eniola Erinosho, a medical practitioner and MICHD program consultant, the nutritional food packs contained the recommended daily dietary composition of protein, carbohydrate, lactose, milk, fat, fibre, vitamins A, C, D3, E, B1, B2, B6, B12, calcium, and folic acid.
