The Lagos State Government has disclosed that it delivered 10,623 affordable housing units within the last seven years as part of efforts to tackle accommodation challenges across the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made the disclosure during a ministerial press briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre to mark the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.

According to the commissioner, the state is also on course to increase the number to 14,022 housing units before the end of 2026.
Akinderu-Fatai explained that the housing sector remains under pressure globally, noting that about 3.4 billion people around the world currently lack access to decent and safe housing.
He added that Nigeria’s housing deficit now stands at about 14.925 million units, while another 15.2 million homes across the country are considered substandard.
The commissioner noted that experts have warned the deficit could rise to about 28 million units in the coming years if housing delivery does not improve significantly.

He further revealed that construction work has commenced on a newly approved 176-unit Workers’ Village in Ipaja, located within Alimosho Local Government Area.
Akinderu-Fatai said the Lagos State Government remains committed to reducing the housing gap despite prevailing economic difficulties and rising construction costs.
According to him, the ministry’s housing achievements have been supported by agencies such as the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, Lagos State Mortgage Board, and the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority.
He maintained that the Sanwo-Olu administration would continue to prioritise affordable and decent housing for residents as part of broader urban development efforts across the state.
