The Lagos State Government, through its Innovate Eko Mentorship Series, marked the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with a powerful event at Dolphin Senior High School on Lagos Island.
Eko Hot Blog reports that top female public officials, including Commissioner Cecilia Dada and Special Adviser Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, successfully mentored students and delivered motivational speeches at the program.

Drawing on their personal journeys, the mentors encouraged students to pursue their goals with focus, with Mrs. Dada specifically urging the girls to reject intimidation, embrace leadership roles, and develop high self-esteem through skill-building.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite advised the girls to recognize their potential to drive positive change through education. She specifically highlighted the importance of empowering girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) disciplines.

Adding to this, Vice Chancellor Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye dispelled gender stereotypes, maintaining that competence, not gender, determines success in science and technology careers.
The program concluded with a session on personal hygiene and menstrual care, led by Senior Special Assistant Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, ultimately preparing the girls for academic excellence, leadership, and overall well-being.
