- A historic rise from outside the top ten to the number one spot in just three years.
- VC Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello reaffirms commitment to academic excellence and growth.
Lagos State University (LASU) has achieved a historic milestone, emerging as the most subscribed university in Nigeria for the 2025 admission cycle.
Ekohotblog reports that this was revealed in the latest Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Application Statistics released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to the data, 70,080 candidates chose LASU as their first-choice institution, placing it ahead of the University of Lagos (58,645 applications) and the University of Ilorin (56,758 applications), which ranked second and third respectively.
This remarkable achievement marks a significant leap from previous years. In 2024, LASU attracted 62,601 first-choice applicants, placing second, and in 2023, it came third with just over 55,000 applications. Notably, prior to 2023, LASU had never ranked among the top ten most subscribed institutions in Nigeria.
The university’s steady rise in national rankings is credited to its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student-focused leadership, all under the transformative administration of Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM.
“This record-breaking achievement is a reflection of our shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and student-centered governance,” she stated.
“We will not relent. We will continue to raise the bar in education and research, and ensure LASU remains the university of first choice for generations to come.”
She reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to sustaining its growth through dynamic academic programmes, institutional reforms, and strong graduate employability.
LASU’s growing popularity is evidence of its enhanced visibility, improved learning environment, and a leadership that inspires trust among aspiring students nationwide.
“We are LASU, we are great!” the Vice-Chancellor declared.
