EKO HOT BLOG reports that the President made the declaration in a statement issued on Tuesday, stressing that the tax reforms are not intended to increase taxes but to promote harmonisation and strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal framework.
Tinubu acknowledged that there have been agitations in some quarters over the newly enacted tax laws. However, he said no substantial issues had been identified to justify suspending or delaying their implementation.
According to him, the Federal Government remains committed to due process and will engage all relevant stakeholders, including the National Assembly, to address concerns raised during the implementation phase.
“The new tax laws, including those that took effect on June 26, 2025, and the remaining acts scheduled to commence on January 1, 2026, will continue as planned,” the President said.
He described the reforms as a rare opportunity to lay a strong and competitive fiscal foundation for the country.
“These reforms are a once in a generation opportunity to build a fair, competitive and robust fiscal foundation for our country,” Tinubu stated.
The President explained that the tax laws are aimed at a structural reset of the system, encouraging harmonisation while protecting citizens and strengthening the social contract between the government and the people.
“The tax laws are not designed to raise taxes, but rather to support a structural reset, drive harmonisation and protect dignity while strengthening the social contract,” he said.
Tinubu urged stakeholders to support the implementation phase, noting that the reforms have moved into the delivery stage.
He also addressed public discussions around alleged changes to certain provisions of the laws, insisting that no issue serious enough to halt the reforms had been established.
“I emphasise our administration’s unwavering commitment to due process and the integrity of enacted laws,” he said, pledging collaboration with the National Assembly to resolve any identified issues.

The President assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would continue to act in the public interest to ensure a tax system that promotes prosperity and shared responsibility.
