The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has celebrated the appointment of Thelma Ekiyor-Solanke as the first Black International Chief Executive Officer of Women for Women International.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by its Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission described the development as a major milestone not just for Nigeria, but for Africans in the diaspora.

It noted that the appointment reflects the increasing global recognition of Nigerian professionals.
Ekiyor-Solanke, known for her work in economic empowerment, gender advocacy, and sustainable development, brings decades of experience into the role. As CEO, she is expected to lead the organisation’s efforts in supporting women affected by war and conflict, helping them access education, financial support, and community networks across multiple countries.
Reacting to the news, NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the appointment as a defining moment for both Nigeria and its diaspora community.
She said the achievement highlights the resilience, excellence, and growing global influence of Nigerians.
“This is a proud and defining moment for Nigeria and the diaspora. Thelma’s leadership reflects the brilliance and impact of Nigerians around the world,” she said.
Dabiri-Erewa added that the milestone should inspire young Nigerians especially women to aim for leadership roles on the global stage.
