The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Edward Okorie from Isiugwu, Ohafia, in Ohafia Local Government Area for allegedly killing his girlfriend, a nurse identified as Sophy Chika, during a domestic altercation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident reportedly occurred on Monday at Isiugwu, Ohafia. The deceased, said to be from Ozu Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area of the state, was allegedly involved in a dispute with her boyfriend before the situation escalated.

Sources within the community disclosed that the couple had been cohabiting in Okagwe village, Ohafia, for over three years before the tragic development. It was gathered that an argument between them turned violent, leading to the nurse’s death.
A community source, who requested anonymity, said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Maureen Chinaka, said the suspect had been apprehended.
According to her, the Divisional Police Officer in Ohafia notified the command of the incident, adding that the matter would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia, for thorough investigation.
“Yes, the attention of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ohafia, was drawn to the incident. The suspect has been apprehended, and the case will be transferred to the SCID today by the DPO,” she stated.
Chinaka assured residents that the command had commenced a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing.
The incident has plunged the Abam community into mourning, with residents calling for justice and a comprehensive probe into the matter.
