The Senate screening of former presidential adviser Reno Omokri took an unexpected turn on Thursday after a sharp disagreement erupted between two senior lawmakers.
Eko Hot Blog reports that what started as a routine appearance before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs quickly evolved into a heated confrontation involving Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Senator Ali Ndume.

Oshiomhole openly endorsed Omokri’s nomination, describing him as a committed Nigerian whose public advocacy has consistently advanced the nation’s interests.

He commended Omokri for admitting past errors when confronted with superior facts, saying such honesty illustrated the kind of judgement required for diplomatic service.
Ndume, however, countered that the chamber must uphold established procedures. He stressed that ambassadorial screenings should remain disciplined and free from personal sentiments. His attempt to interrupt Oshiomhole mid-presentation sparked the fiery exchange.
A visibly irritated Oshiomhole snapped at Ndume, insisting he had the floor. “You can’t silence me until I’m done,” he fired back, adding that only the committee chairman had the authority to moderate his remarks.
He accused some lawmakers of making scattered comments and acting as though they could obstruct the process.

Oshiomhole also referenced recent criticisms of the ambassadorial list, arguing that Omokri had shown consistency in defending Nigeria and a willingness to move beyond old disagreements—a trait he described as pragmatic and essential in diplomacy.
He further maintained that Nigeria currently has a President whose decisions deserve backing, noting that his own experience as a former governor positioned him to guide colleagues unfamiliar with executive leadership.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the committee pushed on with the screening, although the confrontation left several lawmakers visibly uneasy.
