The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has died after a battle with cancer.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, announced the passing of the senior police officer in Umuahia, the state capital, describing the development as a significant loss to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the governor disclosed the news during an event at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, where a minute of silence was observed in honour of the late police chief.
Otti expressed sadness over Uzuegbu’s death, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking officer who served the country with commitment, professionalism and integrity throughout his career in the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the governor, the late AIG distinguished himself through years of selfless service and played an important role in maintaining security within the zone under his supervision.
He noted that Uzuegbu’s passing was not only a painful loss to his immediate family but also to the police institution, colleagues, associates and all those who had the privilege of working with him.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
Otti also acknowledged the impact of the late officer’s death on the security community, stating that his passing had created a moment of grief across the state and among security stakeholders.
Until his death, Uzuegbu was the AIG in charge of Zone 9 Police Headquarters, Umuahia, overseeing police operations and formations within the zone.

His death has thrown officers and personnel under Zone 9 into mourning, with many describing him as a disciplined officer who dedicated his life to public service and the protection of lives and property.
Colleagues and stakeholders who worked closely with him during his career have also paid tribute to his contributions to policing and security administration, noting that his experience and leadership will be greatly missed.
