In a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Ngozi Ezeabata, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, the command confirmed that disciplinary proceedings had already commenced against the officer.
“The Anambra State Police Command wishes to formally address the public concerning a viral video currently circulating on social media in which a police officer was seen threatening violence and engaging in conduct unbecoming of a member of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.
“Following a prompt review of the video, the command immediately identified and arrested the officer involved. The officer is Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Newton Isokpehi, serving in the command.”
The police added that the officer had also been subjected to a drug test as part of efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding his conduct.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, the officer has also been subjected to a drug test to aid the command in establishing all surrounding circumstances and ensuring a thorough and transparent process,” the statement added.
In the viral clip, ASP Isokpehi was heard threatening to kill anyone who attempted to film him, while also claiming that even the Inspector General of Police would attend the burial of anyone who recorded officers on duty.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the officer’s behaviour, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, or actions capable of undermining public confidence.

The command assured residents that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public and promised that any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions in line with police regulations.
The police also reminded officers and personnel in the state command to remain professional, emotionally balanced, and respectful while carrying out their duties, especially in an era where public conduct is constantly under scrutiny.
