EKO HOT BLOG reports that the presidency has responded to reports indicating that Governor Godwin Emefiele of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been given permission to travel abroad for study leave.

In response to the viral reports, Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has asserted that the presidency is unaware of any such development.

“If the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been granted study leave supposedly by President Muhammadu Buhari, this is unknown to us.
“It is also unknown to the President’s secretariat headed by the Chief of Staff”, he stated.

Shehu’s denial comes following a report by Sahara Reporters that President Muhammadu Buhari granted Emefiele’s request to go on a study leave to flee the country before the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on May 29.

Emerging reports had alleged that Godwin Emefiele was preparing to leave the country, amidst accusations of corruption and financing of terrorism levelled against him.

Sahara Reporters added that the Department of State Services (DSS), who attempted to apprehend the CBN Governor is unhappy about the prospect of him escaping justice.
