A 29-year-old tenant named Nweke Friday has been arrested and charged in Lagos for allegedly assaulting his landlord, Olabode Arowojolu, and causing significant damage to the tiles in his rented apartment, estimated at N3.5 million.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that the The dispute reportedly transpired following a disagreement between the tenant and landlord, culminating in the landlord issuing a quit notice to Friday, who resides in a three-bedroom apartment at Seliu Oje Street, Isheri Oshun area of Lagos.

During the altercation, Friday allegedly beat up Arowojolu, prompting the landlord to report the incident to the Isheri Oshun Divisional Police Headquarters.

However, when the police arrived to arrest Friday, he is accused of further attacking one of the police officers.

Following the alleged violent incidents, he was arrested and detained by the police for interrogation.

The investigation ultimately led the police to charge Friday with multiple offenses at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court, stemming from his reported attacks on both the landlord and a police officer, as well as the considerable property damage inflicted on his rented apartment.

In response to the charges levied against him, Nweke Friday entered a plea of not guilty. Consequently, the prosecution, represented by Inspector Simeon Njue, requested a hearing date to allow the police the opportunity to present evidence supporting their allegations.

Presiding Magistrate T.A. Popoola granted Friday bail in the amount of N1 million, with the condition that two sureties provide a similar sum. These sureties must also demonstrate proof of income and tax payment, and their addresses will be verified by the court.

The case has been adjourned until March 17, 2025, for further proceedings. In the interim, Friday has been remanded to the correctional center in Kirikiri, Lagos, where he will remain until he satisfies the bail conditions.
