EKO HOT BLOG reports that the transmission came hours after the Speaker received documents from the legislators detailing allegations that could trigger impeachment proceedings against the state’s top executives.
The notice of allegations, dated January 8, 2026, was signed by Amaewhule and sent separately to both Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu. The documents cited Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the legal basis for the action.
In a letter addressed to the Governor, the Speaker disclosed that he received a formal notice of allegations dated January 5, 2026, bearing the signatures of 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Amaewhule stressed that the number of signatories met the constitutional requirement needed to commence impeachment proceedings.
“The number of signatories to the notice is two thirds of the membership of the Assembly, and it is submitted pursuant to Section 188(1) and Section 188(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read.
The Speaker further requested that Governor Fubara respond to the allegations within the timeframe stipulated by the Constitution. He reminded the Governor of his obligation to address the claims in line with the procedures outlined under Section 188.
“You are requested to respond to the allegations of gross misconduct accordingly. In doing so, your attention is drawn to the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution,” Amaewhule stated.

A similar letter was also transmitted to Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, who was named alongside the Governor in the allegations. The Deputy Governor is equally required to respond in accordance with the constitutional process.
With the formal notification now delivered, both the Governor and his deputy are expected to submit their responses as the impeachment process enters its next constitutional phase.
