Robbers Invade University of Ibadan Hostel, Steal Valuables Worth Thousands

Armed robbers launched an attack on Awolowo Hall at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of Saturday, dispossessing students of valuables worth thousands of naira.
EKO HOT BLOG reports the incident, which caused panic among the students, reportedly lasted for several hours as the assailants moved from room to room, carting away various personal belongings.

According to sources within the university, the stolen items included assorted mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and other valuables. Some of the students were also harassed and threatened during the raid, with the robbers forcefully demanding their possessions.

An eyewitness revealed that the affected students, caught off guard in their sleep, woke up to find the intruders inside their rooms. Many of them screamed for help, alerting other residents and the university’s security personnel. The security team, upon receiving distress calls, quickly mobilized and arrived at the scene.
Their intervention led to the arrest of some of the suspects, who were subsequently handed over to officers at the Sango Police Station. However, several members of the gang managed to escape, prompting security operatives to launch a manhunt for the fleeing robbers.
Speaking on the incident, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, confirmed the attack.

She noted that reports from hall wardens indicated that the primary targets of the robbers were students’ mobile phones. She assured the university community that measures were being put in place to enhance security and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The attack has left many students in fear, with some calling for improved security measures around hostels and other residential areas on campus.
