Eko Hot Blog reports that the historic event, which drew a distinguished gathering of royal fathers, political figures, community leaders, and well-wishers from across Lagos State, Ogun State, Kwara State and beyond, was a perfect blend of deep-rooted Yoruba tradition and modern adaptation, reflecting both heritage and evolving realities.
Proceedings commenced with the formal introduction of both families, creating an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.
This was followed by the symbolic presentation of a proposal letter by the Sobodu family, formally requesting the hand of Princess Adenike in marriage.
The Ogunlari Royal Family responded with a letter of acceptance, sealing the union in line with time-honoured customs.
In a remarkable twist that highlighted the fusion of tradition and technology, the groom, who is based in Canada, participated virtually in the ceremony.
He addressed the gathering in English, Yoruba, and Ijebu dialect, expressing his love and commitment, while his younger brother physically represented him throughout the engagement rites.
His presence was symbolically marked with his portrait placed beside the bride, ensuring his full inclusion in every aspect of the ceremony.
The significance of the occasion was further elevated by the presence of prominent monarchs including Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Oba Ajibade Agoro, Oba Babatunde Rafiu Balogun, Oba Ayodele Kolawole Aliru, Oba Aderibigbe Asunmo, as well as the traditional ruler of Noforija and the monarch of Odo-Egiri, alongside several other respected royal fathers from within Lagos and across other states of the federation.

Guests were treated to a variety of meals and entertainment, while the bridal procession added colour and excitement to the celebration. The cutting of the engagement cake, performed by Alhaji Apena, popularly known as Awuzor, marked another highlight of the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oba Ogunlari expressed profound gratitude to God for witnessing the day, describing the marriage as divinely orchestrated and deeply rooted in patience and unwavering love.
“My daughter remained steadfast over the years. Despite many challenges and pressures, she held on to her choice, and today God has rewarded her patience, loyalty, and good character,” he said.
He further revealed the unique journey of the couple, noting that although the groom had traveled abroad years earlier, his daughter remained committed, refusing other suitors and holding firmly to her love for him.
“This union is a testimony of true love and faith. I am proud of her strength and values, and I pray for a blessed and peaceful home for them,” the monarch added.
The bride, visibly elated, also shared her heartfelt emotions, describing her husband as the embodiment of trust, joy, and companionship.
“It is in him that my heart finds rest, happiness, and trust. I am grateful to God for making this a reality. This shows that serving God truly pays,” she said.
She also appreciated her father and both families for their support, acknowledging the love and unity that made the ceremony a success.
Other dignitaries at the event commended the royal family and offered words of advice to the couple, emphasizing love, patience, and understanding as key pillars of a successful marriage.
