The Nasarawa State Government has assumed control of the prosecution against 32-year-old Timilehin Ajayi, who stands accused of killing 24-year-old corps member Salome Adaidu.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police on Friday, March 7, 2025, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Hauwa Samuel Jugbo announced the takeover, citing Section 211(1) of the Nigerian Constitution as the basis for her office’s authority to manage criminal prosecutions.

Barrister Jugbo disclosed that she would be leading a dedicated team of legal officers from her chambers to handle the case and has requested that the police forward all relevant documents and evidence to her office for further proceedings.
Ajayi had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide before Justice Simon Aboki at the Nasarawa State High Court in Lafia. The charge, brought under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, carries a death penalty if found guilty.

According to the prosecution, Ajayi is accused of murdering Salome Adaidu when she visited his residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi in Karu Local Government Area.
The case has been adjourned for an accelerated hearing and is scheduled to resume between March 17 and 20, 2025.
