The two-day event, themed “Blue Economy, Green Money: Financing Africa’s Coastal Resilience and Ocean Innovation,” focused on attracting sustainable financing for Africa’s coastal cities.

Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as a smart investment hub and one of Africa’s most promising economies, adding that the state’s Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan was already guiding new development strategies.
“In collaboration with the International Finance Corporation, we created the Climate Investment Opportunities Diagnostic to identify prospects in clean energy, sustainable transport, and resilient infrastructure,” he said. “Investing in Lagos’ resilience is smart economics and a commitment to Africa’s coastal stability.”
The governor also announced the creation of Lagos Carbon, Africa’s first domestic environmental market, designed to fund decarbonisation projects through blockchain-based systems.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed that a biogas plant would soon be commissioned at the Ikosi-Isheri Fruit Market to convert fruit waste into clean energy for lighting, cooking, and charging stations.
The summit, which attracted participants from countries including China and the Netherlands, coincides with the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) taking place in Brazil from November 10–21, 2025.
