EKO HOT BLOG reports that the apex court held that a party found to be in contempt of a valid court order cannot seek relief from another court, effectively rejecting the faction’s attempt to validate its November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Delivering the ruling, the court stated, “A party in contempt of a court order does not have the right to approach another court. Appeal is hereby dismissed.”
The decision was reached in a split judgment of three to two, with the majority ruling that the appeal lacked merit.
Justice Stephen Adah, who read the lead judgment, held that the Ibadan convention conducted on November 15 and 16, 2025, was carried out in defiance of an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court delivered by Justice James Omotosho.
The court faulted the Turaki-led faction for approaching another court of coordinate jurisdiction to obtain an order instead of filing an appeal against the subsisting judgment, describing the move as an abuse of court process.
The ruling affirmed earlier decisions that invalidated the convention, which produced a factional national executive led by Turaki.

The Ibadan convention has been the subject of prolonged legal battles within the party, with the Supreme Court’s verdict now reinforcing existing judgments that the exercise was conducted in violation of valid court orders.
