Suspected Herdsmen Kill Four, Injure Seven In Makurdi

Suspected herdsmen, on Friday night, attacked Tse-Angbande in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State leaving four persons dead and seven others badly injured.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom who visited the scene of the attack on Saturday said the armed herdsmen in their usual pattern struck by 11pm when the people were asleep, killing Timothy Emberga Akwa, Innocent Akwa, Terhemba Emberga Akwa, and an in-law identified as Orban.

The Governor condemned the attack, recalling that a few weeks ago, the herders came without cattle and killed a couple, in the same area of Makurdi.

In that incident, he said security agents trailed and apprehended three of the assailants.

He, however, assured residents that security has been doubled to ensure 24-hours vigilance in the affected area to prevent a recurrence of the ugly incident while urging people of the affected communities to cooperate with security operatives.

While addressing the people at Adaka, Ortom said enforcement of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state must continue no matter what armed herdsmen do.
