In the letter, Tinubu cited Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which gives the President the power to appoint ministers subject to Senate approval. He urged lawmakers to consider the nomination without delay.
Alongside Tegbe, the President also requested confirmation for two other nominees; Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State, and Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

Tegbe was recently nominated to head the Ministry of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Like his predecessor, Tegbe hails from Oyo State and brings decades of experience in economic and fiscal reforms. He previously served as a senior partner at KPMG Africa, where he led advisory services and worked on major policy and governance initiatives.
Over the years, he has advised both government institutions and private sector organisations on regulatory reforms, investment strategies, and institutional transformation.
The nominations will now proceed to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
