14 Major Decisions Made At Tinubu’s Latest FEC Meeting

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), led by President Bola Tinubu, convened on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja.

This meeting marked the first since President Tinubu’s return from his recent foreign trips and was attended by ministers and other council members.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that key decisions made during the meeting were shared by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga:

  1. The council reviewed the recent flooding in various parts of the country, particularly in Maiduguri, Borno State, where nearly 50 percent of the city was devastated. The FEC supported the President’s proposal to establish a Disaster Relief Fund, funded by a portion of the Federation Account revenue and private sector contributions.
  2. A technical committee will be established to conduct integnrity tests on Alau Dam and other dams nationwide to prevent future disasters.
  3. The council approved the Economic Stabilisation Bills, which incorporate recommendations from the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy Reforms. These bills aim to amend income tax laws, promote exports, reform the exchange rate regime, and provide tax relief for companies and individuals. The bills will be submitted to the National Assembly for passage.
  4. Approval was granted for the construction of a 258 km three-lane carriageway with continuous reinforced concrete pavement in Kebbi and Sokoto states, as part of the 1,000 km superhighway from Illela, Sokoto State, to Badagry, Lagos State.
  5. The council approved an increased contract cost for the Bodo-Bonny Road with bridges across the Opobo Channel in Rivers State, raising the project budget from N199.9 billion to N280 billion.

  6. A revised contract for the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway was approved at a reduced cost of N740.79 billion, awarded to Julius Berger.
  7. Messrs CCECC Nigeria Limited was awarded contracts worth N133.4 billion for road construction and rehabilitation in Kogi and Cross River states, including the Cross River to Oferekpe Road and the Kabba-Iyamoye-Omuo-Ikole-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti Road.
  8. Messrs BDT International Limited was awarded a N3.2 billion contract to repair the Gamboru Bridge along Gamboru-Ngala-Kala, Balde Road in Borno State, with a completion timeline of 24 months.
  9. Messrs CCECC Nigeria will also handle the repair of damaged loops and ramps on the Third Mainland Bridge superstructure and the rehabilitation of Adeniji-Falomo Roads, with a budget of N42 billion and a six-month completion period.
  10. The council approved a N158 billion contract for constructing service lanes for the Lekki Deep Sea Port, connecting Epe to the Shagamu-Benin Expressway. Dangote Industries will undertake the project under the Federal Government Road Infrastructure Development Fund and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.
  11. The dualisation of the Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe Road in Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo states was approved under the Federal Government Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.
  12. The council approved contracts for the repair of 14 bridges, roads, and flooded sections of Federal Highways across the nation.
  13. The FCT Ministry received approval for seven memos, including the construction of Judges Quarters in Katampe and an access road from Ring Road 1 by N16 Shehu Shagari Way to the Judges Quarters.
  14. Lastly, the council approved a contract for building an access road from Arterial Road N11 in Mabushi District to Judges Quarters within Cadastral Zone B07.
