- Ex-lawmaker commends Tinubu’s food security strategy
- Sharp reduction in prices of rice and other staple foods
- Agriculture reforms linked to improved affordability and stability
A former lawmaker who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Hon. Oghene Egoh, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a deliberate and impactful food security strategy, saying the initiative is already producing tangible results with the reduction in prices of major food commodities across the country.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Egoh said recent developments in the food market indicate that Nigeria’s economy is gradually stabilising, adding that citizens are beginning to feel the positive effects of the administration’s reforms.

According to him, the moderation in food prices is a clear sign that government policies are yielding results.
He cited the drastic reduction in the cost of staple foods, noting that a 50kg bag of rice, which previously sold for about ₦120,000, is now selling for as low as ₦55,000, while the prices of garri, tomatoes, pepper and onions have also dropped significantly.
“This is a clear indication that this current administration are trying their best to ensure economic stability and improvement in the standard of living for citizens,” he said.
The former lawmaker observed that the decline in food prices would allow many Nigerian households to celebrate the yuletide season with less financial strain compared to previous months when food inflation was at its peak.
He explained that improved affordability of essential food items would ease pressure on families and small businesses during the festive period, contributing to improved welfare and consumer confidence.
Egoh attributed the progress to President Tinubu’s comprehensive food security agenda, which he said focuses on increased support for local farmers, better access to agricultural inputs and renewed investment in mechanised farming.
“These measures have boosted local production and reduced our overreliance on food imports,” he stated.
He also praised the Federal Government’s intervention programmes targeted at stabilising food supply chains, including initiatives to address post-harvest losses, improve storage facilities and enhance transportation of agricultural produce from rural areas to urban markets.
The ex-lawmaker further noted that the administration’s collaboration with state governments and private sector stakeholders has strengthened coordination in the agricultural sector, leading to improved output and better distribution nationwide.

He reaffirmed his confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, expressing optimism that continued focus on agriculture and food affordability would consolidate economic recovery and promote shared prosperity across the country.
