Armed assailants reportedly opened fire on Nwaocha around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday as he sat outside his compound along Oba Road with his sister and her friend.
The three women died instantly from bullet wounds, while two other individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.
Reports suggest the killing may have been a reprisal following a clash earlier on Tuesday, during which armed security personnel and OSPAC members reportedly disrupted a community youth meeting, leaving two youths wounded.
Confirming the incident, OSPAC Public Relations Officer Nkem Godknows appealed for calm among residents while urging the state government and security agencies to support the local security outfit with better funding and logistics.
The Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the attack, condemning the violence as a setback to peace efforts in the area and assuring the public that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
