United States President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were greeted with loud boos from sections of the crowd during the FIFA World Cup trophy presentation ceremony following Spain’s victory over Argentina in Sunday’s final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
The reaction came as Trump and Infantino walked onto the pitch to participate in the post match presentation after Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Earlier before the final, Infantino had confirmed that Trump would present the World Cup trophy to the winning team.
Spain secured their second FIFA World Cup title thanks to Ferran Torres’ extra time winner, which ended Argentina’s hopes of successfully defending the trophy.
Videos circulating on social media captured audible jeers and whistles from parts of the stadium as Trump and Infantino made their way onto the field for the medal and trophy presentation.

Despite the mixed reception from supporters, the ceremony proceeded as scheduled, with Trump presenting medals to players before handing the FIFA World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodri.
