Plans for a major celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States have taken a new turn, with President Donald Trump set to play a central role after several scheduled entertainers withdrew from the event.
Eko Hot Blog reports that organisers announced on Saturday that Trump will headline activities on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of the commemorative programme planned for next month.

The celebration is expected to serve as the opening of the Great American State Fair, a 16-day festival scheduled to run from June 25 to July 10.
The event will feature exhibitions, amusement attractions, state-themed displays and entertainment venues stretching between the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument.
However, preparations have faced challenges following the withdrawal of multiple musical acts.

Among the latest to step aside was rock musician Bret Michaels, who said he no longer viewed the event as the nonpartisan gathering he had originally believed it to be.
His exit reportedly brought the number of performers who have pulled out of the concert lineup to five.
In response, organisers indicated that Trump would officially launch the anniversary celebration, describing his participation as a key feature of the programme.
The departures have sparked uncertainty about the original entertainment plans, although organisers have yet to publicly explain the reasons behind the cancellations.

Trump also weighed in on the situation through a social media post, suggesting that a large public rally could replace the concert series if more performers decide not to participate.
The president argued that his public appearances attract significant crowds and said he had instructed his team to examine the possibility of organising an “America Is Back” rally on the National Mall.
The anniversary events are being coordinated by Freedom 250, a public-private initiative established to oversee nationwide activities commemorating 250 years of American independence.
