Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship in the 2027 general election.
Tuggar made the announcement in Bauchi on Saturday, stating that his ambition is driven by the need to improve the state rather than personal gain.

EKO HOT BLOG reports thathe former minister, who previously represented Gamawa in the House of Representatives, said he resigned from the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in compliance with regulations guiding political appointees seeking elective positions.
He expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, noting that his time in office provided him with valuable experience in governance.
He said, “Our state stands at a crossroads. Despite our abundant resources, many people remain poor and lack access to quality education and healthcare. This must change.”
Tuggar said his background in business and agriculture has given him a clear understanding of the challenges facing farmers, herders, and entrepreneurs.
He outlined plans to invest in agriculture, livestock development, agro-processing, rural road infrastructure, and storage facilities to boost productivity and profitability.
“We will support farmers with incentives and improve our weekly markets, which sustain millions of livelihoods across the state,” he said.
On security, Tuggar pledged to tackle rising challenges through community policing, dialogue, and stronger collaboration with traditional institutions.
“No farmer should fear going to the farm, no business person should fear travelling on our roads, and no child should be afraid to go to school,” he said.
The former minister, who previously contested the governorship, said his past experiences have strengthened his resolve and deepened his understanding of the electoral process.

He promised to build on previous efforts while addressing past shortcomings, with a focus on agriculture, rural development, and economic growth in Bauchi State.
