Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two men for allegedly staging the fake abduction of one of them in a bid to extort ₦4 million from his family.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspects, identified as Lucky Alabi, 48, and Taiye Enahoro, 37, both from Uneme Akpama Community, were arrested by detectives attached to the Igarra Police Division following intelligence-led investigations.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikioedem, said the suspects were apprehended after investigators uncovered what he described as a carefully planned attempt to deceive Alabi’s relatives into paying a ransom.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged plot was carried out on June 23, 2026, when Enahoro reportedly made several telephone calls to members of Alabi’s family, claiming he had been kidnapped and demanding ₦4 million for his release.
“The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that on June 26, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., operatives of the Igarra Division arrested two suspects, Lucky Alabi, 48, and Taiye Enahoro, 37, both of Uneme Akpama Community, for conspiring to stage the fake kidnapping of Lucky Alabi,” the statement read.

The command said intelligence gathering and diligent investigation exposed the alleged deception, leading to the arrest of both suspects.
Police further disclosed that the suspects have confessed to their respective roles in the alleged crime and will be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, warned members of the public against engaging in criminal schemes such as staged kidnappings to extort money from unsuspecting relatives.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring everyone involved in criminal activities is brought to justice and urged residents to remain vigilant by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities to the police.
