Eyewitnesses said the truck, with registration number Abuja RBC 560 XE, was reportedly moving at high speed and lost control while attempting to brake at an intersection.
Two vehicles driving behind the truck were also involved in the incident after colliding in the aftermath of the crash. However, occupants of the vehicles survived, reportedly due to the low speed at which they were travelling.
The truck driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.
An eyewitness said the crash occurred around 7:00 a.m., leading to heavy traffic congestion along the busy expressway. Emergency responders arrived over an hour later to clear the obstruction and restore movement in the area.
An official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that no lives were lost. According to the source, the affected vehicles were later moved to the Makinde Police Station, while the contents of the container remain unknown.

A source within the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) attributed the crash to human error, suggesting that the driver may have been fatigued or distracted. The official also noted that the truck’s tyres were intact, ruling out a tyre burst as the cause of the accident
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to observe traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds and remain vigilant, especially during periods of reduced visibility.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to improving road safety and traffic management across Lagos State.
Emergency responders at the scene included LASTMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
