US Accuses Russia Of Hacking Banks In Ukraine
- The UK also says GRU was almost certainly involved in the cyber attacks…
EKO HOT BLOG reports that top US security officials have claimed that Russia was behind a hack of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and several Ukrainian banks earlier this week.
The infiltration was likely “to conduct intelligence and pre-position to conduct disruptive cyber actives,” said Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technology Anne Neuberger.

The hack included text messages being sent to bank customers, telling them that ATM services were unavailable, she added.
The GRU – Russia’s defence intelligence agency – was seen transmitting “high volumes of communication” through its servers with several banks, she claims.
The UK also says GRU was almost certainly involved in the cyber attacks.
“The decision to publicly attribute this incident underlines the fact that the UK and its allies will not tolerate malicious cyber activity,” the British foreign ministry said.
