The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and cultist who had been on its wanted list for some time.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday, noting that the arrest took place on April 22, 2026.

According to her, police operatives acted on credible intelligence and moved swiftly to Ikot Aka Village in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, where they apprehended the suspect, Ubong Michael, also known as “Ubong Boy,” aged 30.
The police said the suspect had been hiding in Port Harcourt but was tracked and arrested after returning quietly to the community.
Preliminary investigations link him to several kidnapping operations, including the abduction of victims identified as Gabriel in 2023 and John in 2025.
A search conducted at the time of arrest led to the recovery of items described by the police as disturbing, including a human skull, a human bone, live cartridges, and a dagger.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crimes and is now assisting investigators with useful information to track down other members of the syndicate and recover more weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers for their swift, intelligence-led operation and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of violent crime.
He also warned criminal elements to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the state will remain hostile to crime.
The police urged residents to stay vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information, assuring the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
