Hajiya Hadiza Jega, wife of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has passed away.
Eko Hot Blog reports that her family confirmed her death in a statement released on Sunday, April 5, 2026, noting that her Janazah prayer would be held the same day in Abuja.

According to the announcement, the funeral prayer is scheduled to take place after the Zuhr prayer at about 1:30 p.m. at the National Mosque Abuja.

The family urged friends, associates, and sympathisers to remember them in prayers during this period, while also praying for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Aljannah Firdausi.
Prof. Jega currently serves as Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, Special Adviser to the President on Livestock Development, and Pro-Chancellor of both Nasarawa State University and Usman Danfodio University.
He previously held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Bayero University Kano before his appointment as INEC chairman.

Meanwhile, Bayero University, Kano, has also mourned the late Hadiza Jega, expressing condolences to the former vice-chancellor and his family.
In a statement, the institution described her passing as a great loss and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon her soul, asking for forgiveness of her shortcomings and strength for the family to bear the loss.
Late Hajiya Hadiza Jega was known for her contributions to education and community development, particularly in northern Nigeria.
